Kalina Lace Shawl

I designed Kalina for myself to wear for Christmas party. It’s knitted in Malabrigo Lace (Ravelry Red). I’ve seen this yarn at LYS, but it was pricey, I found much better deal at FabYarn. Bought this yarn for myself, to knit something for me, not relatives or friends. It was a dream yarn, it was meant to be something exquisite.

Kalina (kah-lee-nah) is Russian name for Viburnum opulus – Guelder Rose. Beautiful shrub especially in August when the berries are ripe, and the leaves turn to a bright red or rich purple before falling.

I knit this hat for my friend as a surprise for her birthday.
I used Madelinetosh DK in the colorway of Badlands. I loved knitting with this yarn and the variations of the brown were fun. It should be perfect to go along with the brown coat she wears to work.
The pattern is called “Molly” and is by Erin Ruth.

Dandelion Air

“Dandelion air is inspired by whimsy.”

It’s weird to have a personal relationship to a project or pattern. I fell in love with this colorway, Madeline Tosh Merino Light in Candlewick, the moment I saw it. I let the skein sit for a while before I knit it up, convinced I wouldn’t make anything worthy of its amazing color depth.

I have always loved the image of the dandelion and the traditions that accompany it; children use it to make wishes, adults reluctantly try to keep their lawns rid of the weed (which is a fruitless endeavor — it is in the weed’s nature to grow back, it is in the child’s nature to wish).
